A Woman and the Planets that Rule Her

Updated: Nov 3, 2022

To understand a woman, we must understand her phases.

* this is an introductory article to female health through the lens of Ayurveda and Astrology.

A Woman and Her Phases

The female is unequivocally entwined with the phases of the Moon. A woman's reproductive hormone cycles literally move with the Moon itself. A woman's normal cycle ranges 28 days and the Moon also has a 28 day cycle. When 28 is divided in half it is 14, aligning with the fortnights of the Moon. The women of the world do not all bleed together- on a new moon nor a full moon, although some female cycles are linked to new moon (ovulate/bleed) or full moon (ovulate/bleed), with their bleeding aligning differently with the phases.

The general idea of the Moon's affect on the body is as the Moon grows in fullness, or waxing, the body and its tissues/waters, grow in theirs. As the Moon is loosing its fullness, or waning, the body and its tissues/waters, loose theirs. Men are not immune to these effects, the movement of the Moon shines its influence on all human beings on earth, but for women, the effects are most markable. A simple way where this knowledge is employed, is with hair cutting. Orthodox families in India only cut hair when the Moon is gaining in fullness as to not deplete vital energy of the body.

Understanding A Woman: Her Planets

According to Ayurveda, everything can be deduced to Doshas, Vata, Pitta and/or Kapha, even the Planets.

Moon is a Vata-Kapha planet. Venus is a Kapha-Vata planet. Mars is a Pitta planet.

I am putting special emphasis on Moon and Mars. See why below...

Mars signifies blood, its location in a birth chart (and its transits) can alter the comfort or discomfort of the blood during menstruation. It is important for all women to develop a relationship with the planet Mars, if they wish to understand and even remedy any bleeding ails. Mars is the planet of passion, blood, muscle and heat. It is a pivotal planet for women in their bleeding years, during labor via muscle contractions and blood loss, and the transition of menopause. As a woman's phases continue, from bleed to menopause, her relationship with the bloody Mars may give her new experiences- hot flashes. If her relationship with Mars is not amicable, this planet may cause bleeding disorders; hemorrhaging, laxity or stiffness to the uterine muscles.

A woman, healthy in her power, is a mark of Mars.

For women the Moon is a planet that signifies hormones, breasts, and the womb. The Moon rules the mind and emotions, thereby linking the role of our emotions/wellbeing to our womb health/hormonal health, and vice versus. Moon is the nurturing and life creating planet, and a pivotal energy for fertility. Understanding our emotions, is understanding our hormones.

Venus is a planet ruling the genitals and the ovaries. Genital issues, ovarian cysts etc. are occurrences stemming from Venus.

Vulva, Vagina.. Venus.

Venus is the pleasure seeking planet and one of romance. Our ability to access pleasure and romantic love in this life is directly associated with Venus's wellbeing. Venus plays the role of sexuality and sensualization. Sensuality is an important part, but a women is not just her sensual nature. She may possess this sensual nature in full ripeness, and 'juiciness,' but this does not imply nor assure total female health and wellness.

Venus is also a planet ruling fluids of the body, like Moon and Mars. But unlike Moon ruling the water/plasma/amniotic fluid and lymph and Mars ruling the blood, Venus rules a fluid of a different kind that may surprise you...

The famous saying Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus, is stamped into our collective brains... But to most surprise, The planet Venus rules semen/seminal fluid. With Venus ruling seminal fluid and Mars ruling menstrual/labor blood, we may need to rethink where Men and Women are 'from.'

Women are multi faceted lunar beings, in flux and in flow. There is nothing like a 'woman's touch,' a 'mother's love' and no power so fierce as a woman's scorn. She is power and compassion. She is life.

Becoming aligned and in-tune with what makes up the health and wellness of a woman, is key to enjoying peek health through all phases.
